Hi, I’m Matt, a wildlife filmmaker and photographer based in the North East of England. My work focuses on documenting wildlife, landscapes, and the stories shaped by the natural world, using a patient, observational approach rooted in conservation and respect for place.
I work primarily in the field, relying on natural light and minimal intervention to capture genuine behaviour and atmosphere. Time, preparation, and an understanding of the environment are central to my process, allowing stories to unfold authentically rather than being constructed.
Alongside wildlife filmmaking, I also produce portrait photography and film. I apply the same documentary principles when working with people, creating portraits that feel natural, character-driven, and honest.
Through Matt Hetherington Photography, I create film and still imagery for individuals and organisations who value thoughtful, factual, and story-led visuals. Whether documenting wildlife or people, my aim is to produce work that informs, connects, and endures.
